John and Kathy

“We were blessed with three biological sons, but our hearts always longed for a daughter. Our family still has so much love to give that we hope to be able to extend that love to another child.”

Location: Maryland

Ages: 38 and 36

Religion: Christian

Professions: Air National Guard/Business Owner

Other Kids: 3 boys

Preferences: Caucasian/Hispanic/Bi-Racial, Girl, Newborn up to 6 months

How We Met: We met on a humid August night on the bottom floor of a Latin salsa bar in Washington, D.C. John was there for a goodbye party and Kathy had just gotten off of crutches after a 3-month recovery from knee surgery. A week later we went on our first date to a Washington football game and two days after that, John took Kathy on a “proper” first date to a comedy play at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. That is where the sparks flew and our love story truly began. That’s also where John proposed 7 months later.

Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other: John is loyal, funny and pays attention to the details that no one else does. When he commits to doing something, he does it all the way and with excellence! He is adventurous, curious, has a bit of a rebellious spirit, and puts others before himself. Kathy is confident, energetic, fun, and intelligent. She is compassionate, ambitious and supports and challenges me to be more than I think I can be. Best of all, she is a patient and loving mother to our three rambunctious boys!

Our Hobbies and Interests: We love cooking, hosting friends and family whether it’s to watch sports, host a game night, or spend the evening chatting away. Kathy has taught the boys her love of baking and they often bake together. As a couple we love to travel, get tattoos, and work on home projects together. As a family, we look forward to our Friday movie nights with takeout pizza and a homemade treat. Most weekends you’ll find us at one of our kids sporting events, church, exploring our city, or hanging out with our extended family.

Why We Want to Adopt: We were blessed with three biological sons (Daniel, Zane and Cillian), but our hearts always longed for a daughter. After three c-sections and tough pregnancies spent in and out of the hospital, God put adoption on our heart after the birth of our second son. We know that a biological daughter was never a part of God’s plan for our family and when asked why adoption, the answer is simple: our family is not complete.
