How We Met: We grew up together. Colleen had a crush on Alex in kindergarten. Alex didn’t really notice her until middle school when suddenly we became friends. Colleen was a spirited, attractive ballerina, who spent her time dancing in the city. Alex was an outdoorsy boy, who got nervous in crowds. On paper, we didn’t make much sense as a couple, but we were the best of friends. Our friendship grew deeper and stronger until we worried that if we dated, we would risk our friendship. Love was worth the risk. We began dating in high school and continued through college. We were married the summer after Colleen’s graduation.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other: Told by Alex – Colleen brings life and joy to my life and our family. Colleen is easily the hardest-working person I have ever met. She has spirit, and tenacity, and never backs down from doing what is right. She pours all of herself into everything she does, including her family. She makes me proud to be her husband every day.
Told by Colleen – Alex is my best friend and partner for life. He is honest, loyal, and compassionate. He is the most selfless, and caring person I know. He supports and loves his family well and it is a joy to see him raise our children. He is the perfect combination of goofy and consistent. He is not afraid to do hard things, and he does not shy away from challenges.
Our Hobbies and Interests: Colleen’s biggest hobby is teaching ballet. She has been dancing or teaching since she was 5 and loves to share it, especially with young children. She shares a love of travel with Alex, and we love exploring new places. Alex loves the outdoors. He loves camping, and our son has become his new favorite camping partner. We take hikes and walks as a family, and always try to find new things to appreciate about nature. We are lucky to live in an area close to farms, cities, and woodlands and we try to observe the best parts of each in every season. Our family also loves to play games together and watch movies together.
Why We Want to Adopt: Adoption is not something our family “has” to do, but rather something we have always wanted to do. It has been a valued part of our family’s story. We knew before we married that we would adopt some day. We are blessed to live in a community where there are many families who grew through adoption. We have seen firsthand how adoption changes the hearts and lives of everyone around, and we would be honored to share in that love.
