How We Met: We meet in 2009 as first year graduate students in physics and had all our classes together. In our second semester, we were lab partners, watched the winter Olympics together, and played on an intramural soccer team. We started dating and got married 1.5 years later. We finished grad school around the same time and have moved around the country multiple times for jobs. Though we would not have expected the location, we’ve finally settled down in Massachusetts.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other: Bryan is kind, committed, smart, and unflappable. He is very supportive, not only in life’s ups and downs but also in dreams we have for our future, whether it’s years down the road or plans for next weekend. Karen is a planner, passionate, loving, and forgiving. She loves to create (painting, baking, etc.) and always assumes the best in people, especially her family, even when she has been let down before. She reflects on herself and is always trying to improve and become an even better person.
Our Hobbies and Interests: We like to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. In the summers, we can be found camping, hiking, biking, or at the beach. When the weather gets colder, we love skiing/snowboarding, sledding, or building a snowman. We’ve been sharing the love of the outdoors with our son as he has been able. We also like to take it slower with reading, board games, hanging out with family and friends, and watching movies. As both of our families live far away, we travel several times a year to see family and explore new places.
Why We Want to Adopt: When we got married in graduate school, it only made sense to wait on starting a family until we were done with school. However, after graduating we tried for more than a year and eventually found out that Karen is unexplainably infertile. Knowing that we still wanted to build a family, we adopted our son, James, at birth and he is now 3 years old. We have loved becoming parents and it is a joy to watch our son learn, grow, and develop. He is so loving and interactive that we would love to grow our family and give him a little brother or sister.
