How We Met: We met at an event during the first week of our Senior year at the small Catholic college we both attended. The story goes that Declan was interested right away because of Kelly’s firm handshake! For our first date Declan grilled hamburgers and we started the first of many 1000-piece puzzles. We had many amazing conversations while putting together that puzzle (and on dates, walks, studying, and with friends). By mid-October when the puzzle was complete, we knew we had both found a best friend and future spouse in each other.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other: Declan is honest, genuine, and hardworking; a provider and protector in every sense of each word. He’s a great conversationalist and has a special gift to make anyone feel at ease. He also has the most incredible memory. Kelly is caring, easygoing, thoughtful, and organized. She is very committed to family and strives to lift up those around her, taking special care to help out and check in on anyone who is struggling. Our Catholic faith is the foundation of our marriage, which helps to foster the love, trust, and appreciation that we have for one another.
Our Hobbies and Interests: Most of what we love to do involves being outside. We love sports like tennis, soccer, golf, pickleball, swimming, ice skating, and skiing, and also exploring the beautiful surroundings in our area. We enjoy hiking with our dogs and kayaking or floating in the river. We also enjoy spending time with friends and extended family playing yard games, having bonfires, playing cards, and attending sporting events. We also love music – Declan plays the bagpipes and Kelly plays piano.
Why We Want to Adopt: We have always had it on our hearts to have children and have been open to adoption since we first started dating. We learned that we would not be able to conceive naturally after many years of trying but believe that God has put a vocation on our hearts for parenthood through adoption. We have beautiful examples in our lives of families with adoption as a part of their story, and we know that we have a loving support system in one another, and in our extended family and friends.
