How We Met: We met 9 years ago at a St. Patrick’s Day party we both attended with our friends. Jack had already left the party but came back after a friend called him and when he did, he happened to recognize one of Elizabeth’s friends from work. We started chatting and from very early on we realized we had the most important things in common – faith, values, and many shared interests. From the start, our friends and families commented that our different personalities (Jack is more outgoing and spontaneous, and Elizabeth is quieter and more cautious) make us a good match as we balance each other very well. We had both always wanted to be married and to have children and we knew we could build that life together, even though we lived nearly 2 hours apart at the time we met. After a long-distance relationship and lots of driving back and forth, we were married about 2 and a half years after meeting.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other: Elizabeth says Jack is fun, energetic, and pretty much always in a good mood! He works very hard to support our family. There’s nothing Jack likes more than a good party with family and friends – he is a great host! Most importantly though, he is a loving husband and father and would do anything for his family. He is the first to offer to help anyone who needs it. As a father, Jack is patient, affectionate, and loves to teach our daughter new things. Jack describes Elizabeth as a devoted wife and mother. She is strong and passionate. When she is determined to achieve a goal, nothing will stop her. She makes sure our daughter learns and experiences new things. I have always admired her strong faith that helps keep her grounded. Elizabeth is loyal, loving, and a good companion.
Our Hobbies and Interests: Family time is the most important to us. We eat almost all our meals together as a family (Jack is even able to come home from work for lunch) and, with most of our relatives living nearby, we are often gathered to celebrate someone’s birthday or a holiday. Our faith is a central part of our life and Sundays are particularly set aside as a time for church, rest, and a big family meal, relaxing at home by the fireplace in the winter or outside in the yard during the warmer months. We enjoy traveling and have been to many different countries and cities across the USA together. Our daughter took her first cross country trip with us to visit family when she was just 3 months old. Recently we have taken shorter trips near our home and enjoyed the beauty all around us in New England – we are lucky to live within driving distance of the ocean, the mountains, and bigger cities to explore. We spend a lot of time in the summer at a family home in a beachside town, where some of our happiest memories as a couple have been made. Jack loves to sail and Elizabeth is hoping to learn how to sail soon, too. We all enjoy swimming and spending the day at the water with a picnic lunch.
Why We Want to Adopt: We wanted to have children from the beginning of our marriage, but it didn’t happen naturally for us. After a few years, we turned our hearts to adoption and we felt peace in beginning the process. We were overjoyed to welcome our daughter via adoption almost 2 years ago. We thank God every day that we were chosen to be her parents. We’re hoping to expand our family once again and to have the privilege of raising another daughter or son. With grandparents, aunts, uncles, and many young cousins all living nearby, we and our extended family have so much love to give. Our hearts, family, and home are ready to welcome another beautiful child.
