How We Met: We met in college at a party Jack’s friends were hosting at their dorm room in 2014. Jack was commanding the room with a funny story from a recent trip to Austin, TX with his friends. You could say it was “laughter” at first sight, because once a conversation started between us, we were laughing the entire night. We quickly realized we shared a love of cheesy reality game shows, college football and videos of tiny animals. We started going on dates, and it didn’t take us long at all to know that we were meant for each other!
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other: Jack is caring, goofy, family-oriented and very laid-back. He was born to be a dad. It takes him less than a second to pull out his phone and proudly show pictures of our son to anyone who asks. Jack’s friends describe him as the “glue” of their group because he takes such good care to keep up with everyone he loves. Ryann is family-oriented, confident, thoughtful and loyal. Whenever I feel down or stressed out, Ryann is there, usually with some food and a smiling toddler. Her laugh makes me so happy, and she’d do anything for her family. Watching her with our son reminds me every day that I made the best decision in my life when I asked her to marry me.
Our Hobbies and Interests: We are a very active family, and we adore the neighborhood that we live in. Sports (football, baseball, tennis, biking and sailing) are a major part of our lives. Our Christian beliefs shape a lot of family traditions and celebrations in our household; we take any excuse to celebrate, cook, bake and play. We also enjoy spending quiet time as a family watching movies together, having friends and family over for dinner and just sitting down on our back patio and talking to each other (usually with a tasty treat Jack has baked). Nothing makes us happier than being parents!
Why We Want to Adopt: Although we have always felt a calling toward adoption, it was solidified after Ryann had an emergency surgery after the birth of our son that left her unable to conceive more children. A few of Ryann’s childhood best friends were adopted, so we have always seen adoption as a natural path to growing a family. We’ve seen many families that have adopted and have had biological children, and we knew that as a path that we would take someday to help our little family grow!
