How We Met: We met in an unusual way. After graduating college, Antonia in California and Josh in Maryland, we each enrolled in a program that brought us to teach English to elementary school children in Madrid, Spain. Some people organized meetups so that we could build community with others in the program. We met at one of these gatherings and realized our apartments were very close to each other. From then on, we had a lot of time riding the metro and getting to know one another. Eventually, the friendship turned into a dating relationship. A year later we were engaged.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other: Josh is great at connecting with folks and making them feel comfortable. He makes friends everywhere he goes and creates long-lasting bonds. In our marriage, Josh is always trying to find the humor in everything. Antonia is a woman of strong character and with drive. She always has a way to rise to any occasion and take on challenges. Antonia is also a very gentle soul who always assumes the best of everyone. As a couple, we value our faith and are committed Christians. We believe that each person has value because they are created by God.
Our Hobbies and Interests: Josh is a people-person through and through. He is recharged after spending time with friends while laughing and having deep conversations about life. His favorite things to do with friends are playing board games, watching sports, or going hiking. Antonia tends to lean towards more crafty activities, sewing, knitting, making home-made cards, etc. Lately, she’s been learning more about gardening and keeping a growing number of house plants. The thing we enjoy doing the most together is traveling. We have so many shared memories of seeing new and exotic places that we treasure.
Why We Want to Adopt: We always wanted to pursue adoption to grow our family someday, and when we began talking about having children, we always hoped to have multiple littles ones relatively close in age. The experience that children get when growing up with siblings that are of similar age seems so rewarding. However, when we decided to start growing our family, it took us longer than expected to get pregnant. We were ultimately able to get pregnant with our daughter, Belen. However, we’ve experienced a few miscarriages since then, and we don’t know if we will be able to get pregnant again.
