How We Met: We’ve been married for almost 12 years, but our journey as a couple began more than 18 years ago when we met and started dating in high school. Although we attended different schools, we met through mutual friends and immediately formed a strong bond. The time since then has certainly been filled with adversity, including dating long distance during college and Mike’s deployment to Baghdad during our first year of marriage. But, our love and commitment got us through the difficult times. We’ve settled into a home and community we love in the Northeast and continue to feel truly grateful every day for having found each other so early in life.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other: Mike is a kind, generous, and loving soul. He has a calm demeanor with an incredible drive to achieve his goals. As a father, he is constantly playing on the floor with the boys and making them laugh. He truly enjoys spending quality time with family and teaching our children new things. Carolyn is a very loving and caring person. She is incredibly creative and loves finding new ways to express her creativity. Carolyn really does her best to “bring the sparkle” to our family – she always tries to keep things lighthearted and make the best of every situation. As a mother, she is very loving, always snuggling with the kids and laughing with them as much as possible.
Our Hobbies and Interests: As a couple, we enjoy spending quality time together, whether that’s sitting together by the fire pit or exploring the city during our cherished weekly date nights. We know that maintaining a strong marriage will allow the two of us to be the backbone of our family. We enjoy traveling, trying new foods, and sharing new experiences with our children. We also share a love of animals and have a particularly soft spot for dogs. We love to embrace every season, whether that’s taking the kids apple picking in the fall or taking time for skiing and sledding in the winter.
Why We Want to Adopt: In growing our family, adoption was always a part of the plan. Carolyn grew up with adoption as part of her family. Her sister was born in India and adopted by her family when Carolyn was 6. Through this experience, she developed a greater openness for other cultures, celebrating Indian heritage through holidays and with the local Indian community. She also developed a new understanding of the concept of family and how love grows regardless of shared genes. Because of this, we are open to welcoming a child of any race or background. We are thankful for even the possibility of adopting a child and know that we will love them unconditionally as a member of our family.
