How We Met: We met online in 2014 (it happens!) and fell for each other almost overnight (really!). We found that we shared hobbies – listening to music, attending sporting events, making art, being outdoors – and that we each had dedicated our careers to fighting for a more equitable world. We decided to build a life together and become a family. The story of our family, however, truly began when we met our biological son, Malcolm, and welcomed him into the world. Witnessing him become himself has been our greatest joy.
Qualities We Love, Admire and Respect in Each Other: Clare fights for what she believes in. She can often be found leading a training for women who are running for office or knocking on doors to canvass for political candidates that share her values. Above all else, however, Clare values her loved ones. She is a wonderful mother, spouse, and friend. Zach is a devoted dad and an amazing educator. He teaches 8th grade social studies, coaches basketball and communicates care to all of the young folks in his life. He makes the young folks – and grown folks – in his life feel seen, heard and loved. He also makes a mean burrito.
Our Hobbies and Interests: We love to spend time with family. Thankfully our families do as well. Our individual families have actually become so close that we all now vacation and celebrate holidays together. We always fly down to Southwest Florida (where Clare is from) to celebrate major holidays with both families. We typically spend the summer months at our vacation home in the country, hiking, swimming, and playing outdoors with our son. Malcolm loves to find bugs in the dirt, water all the plants in our garden, and can’t get enough of our pool. He also loves cooking with his dad, reading books with his mom and making art. Clare and Zach just love watching him explore his world. Malcolm is ready for a sibling and cannot wait to have a partner in crime.
Why We Want to Adopt: Adoption is actually already a part of our story. Zach’s sister and brother joined the family through adoption and two of our closest friends happen to have been adopted when they were children. We are now hoping to expand our own family through adoption. We’ve been blessed to have one biological child, Malcolm, but are not able to have a second and have more love to give. Your child would be cared for by a village of loving family and friends and would have the support of fellow adoptees.
